TypeCraft Engineering is a boutique foundry of type designers, font engineers, and CJK specialists. We work directly with brand and legal teams — no reseller layer, no retail catalogue.

Founded as a two-person lettering practice; incorporated as a foundry in 2014 after the first full CJK commission.

How a commission runs
Four phases, each with a written sign-off. Nothing advances on a mood board alone.
01 · Typographic audit
We inventory every environment the brand sets type in — legal small print, in-store signage, dashboard UI, CJK market collateral — and record the failures the current stack produces.
02 · Skeleton drawing
Two or three competing skeletons are drawn at text size first. Display cuts are derived from the winner, never the reverse.
03 · Extension & interpolation
Weight and width masters are drawn at the extremes, interpolated, then hand-corrected at intermediate instances where the maths lies.
04 · Engineering & release
OpenType feature code, hinting, subsetting, variable builds, and a written typographic specification handed to the brand's agencies.
